Celebrations
We’re always celebrating something here at Space Station (any excuse for a bit of cake!) This year we’ve celebrated our IT manager Lynn’s incredible 30 years’ service with Space Station. Alastair came in to present Lynn with some well-deserved gifts. Congratulations to Lynn on an amazing achievement.
Talking of Alastair, his mother Dorothy has also been celebrating as she has recently been awarded a Guinness World Record Title! Dorothy has accompanied Alastair on a number of rallies over the last few years and has been named the Oldest Active Rally Navigator! Congratulations Dorothy!
Back to our staff, Alan from our West London stores has also celebrated a very impressive 15 years with the company. Congratulations and well done Alan!
We are really proud of our staff retention – 60% of Space Station staff have been with the company for over 5 years and 30% have been with the company for 15 years or more! That’s a lot of self-storage experience!
With continued growth we have also welcomed new members to our team, Sandra started at our Slough store just before Christmas and has settled in really well. Kip has joined as the new manager at our Uxbridge store and both Lilian and Marie have joined the team at North London. A very warm welcome to them all – here’s hoping they enjoy a long and successful career at Space Station!
Store news
We’re also celebrating store birthdays this year…
Our Kings Heath store celebrated its first birthday in February. It’s been a busy year there with lots of refurbishments taking place and the staff have all coped really well with all the changes. The store is looking great and doing well.
And later this year our Uxbridge store will be celebrating 10 years since opening so no doubt there will be cake then too!
Super stars
On the subject of stores and staff, this year we’ve introduced a new Super Stars Scheme – to reward Space Station stores and individuals with ‘stars’ for exceptional performance each month.
Stars equal pounds which can be spent by the store team on whatever they wish. So far this year West London have accrued the most stars and have a healthy £400 in their pot to spend. They are currently organising a team day/night out to celebrate! Well done West London!
Customer WI-FI
We’re always looking to improve our customer experience – we’ve recently introduced free customer Wi-Fi at our Swiss Cottage and St John’s Wood stores and will be rolling this out to our other stores over the coming months.
Eggcellent work!
For the 6th year running our Slough store donated 100 chocolate eggs to the Wexham Park Hospital Children’s Ward in time for Easter, hoping to make the children’s stay in hospital over the Bank Holiday a little brighter.
Staff from our Kings Heath store also delivered arts and crafts goodies to the children at their local hospital – Birmingham Children’s Hospital over Easter.
Variety fundraising
Space Station is committed to making a contribution to charity and this year is no different. Space Station has joined the Variety Children’s Charity with a pledge to raise £20,000 – the cost of a new Sunshine Coach.
The coaches are used every day to transport thousands of children with special needs either for educational, recreational or vocational activities and so we’re proud to be working towards this.
Our Slough store made a great start with fundraising by hosting a charity open evening at the end of April. They held a raffle and a blind bid storage auction, raising a brilliant £568.50!
Each member of staff here at Space Station is taking part in fundraising events. So look out for activity at your local store and please join in and support this great cause!

your storage up front;

40 Years a Champion
Prior to starting a self-storage company Space Station founder and owner Alastair Caldwell was a Formula One team manager, managing world championship winner James Hunt.
2016 marks the 40th anniversary of James Hunt’s victory and while Alastair has taken a back seat with the storage business he is still in the front seat when it comes to rallying!
In March Alastair took part in the Maya Rally, travelling across seven countries in the space of 30 days! And he’s now travelling through Colombia, Ecuador and Peru on the Alpaca Rally! We’ve been keeping up to date with emails and photos, you can keep up with Alastair’s adventures on Facebook, Twitter and on his website AlastairCaldwell.com.
You can also read more about the TransAm Rally – for which Alastair’s mother Dorothy received her Guinness World Record title. Here she is, the Oldest Active Rally Navigator handling the book and map – without reading glasses!
