Toy seller Robert Charrington has taken his business online with the help of Space Station business bulk storage after closing the door to his high street store for the last time. After almost 30 years of trading in Whitton and Twickenham, he has moved to ecommerce after deciding not to renew the lease at his shop - Papillon Toys.
Now, Mr Charrington is managing his business from a serviced office and bulk storage at Space Station Self Storage, West Drayton.
“It is sad when you close the doors for the last time,” he said. “I am sad to leave the high street but look forward to a new chapter in my working life.”
Trading as onlytoys.co.uk, Mr Charrington has found linking his business adminsitration and storage on the same site makes trading a lot easier.
Every few weeks, deliveries arrive in 20-foot containers that are unloaded by a forklift truck in to a bulk storage unit at Space Station.
One of the main factors that encouraged him to make the change was flexible contract terms on the office and storage offered by Space Station when he had to tie-in to at least a 10-year lease to continue at his shop.
The onlytoys.co.uk web site lets customers browse and buy many leading toy brands – including an exclusive range of mostly TV inspired die-cast models featuring vehicles from Coronation Street, The Bill and other popular series.
These are manufactured and sold under Mr Charrington’s own Richmond Toys brand.
“I have had storage space with Space Station for several years and mentioned I was looking for serviced offices. They showed me around and my mind was made up once I saw what they had to offer,” said Mr Charrington.
“Renting an office from Space Station means our office and storage solutions are all housed in the same place. The flexibility of Space Station has meant that we have been able to rent additional space on a temporary basis, and also for our longer term storage requirements.”
