2013 in a nutshell….I mean storage unit

Everywhere you go at this time of year you hear the melodic tones of John Lennon reminding us of  ‘another year over’ but just what have we been up to this last year at Space Station? With such a busy year in 2012, Space Station achieving celebrity status as it did, we wondered what 2013 had in store (excuse the pun) for us and whether anything could beat our busy 2012. However, what a busy year we have had! For a start it was our 30th birthday. We really have not stopped, and what’s more Space Station is still growing and evolving, continually improving our services to customers like you.

In January 2013 we re-opened the doors to Space Station Brentford following our refurbishment.

The new store was opened as a more environmentally friendly, consumer friendly branch with a brand new lift. We even added new external cladding to make it ship shape to store all your prized possessions and make Space Station a place you enjoy popping in to and popping your belongings in to!

It was in March that Space Station pledged to halve its carbon footprint in three years. We had already introduced a 5.5kw wind turbine at our Brentford branch, and installed high energy rooftop solar panels at all of our branches. These generate over 200,000 watts of electricity, saving 120 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere each year. We also installed motion sensor activated lighting system in our Brentford branch but we decided we wanted to do more for our planet so we pledged to source recycled packaging for our shop and to replace standard high energy bulbs with low energy efficient LED bulbs throughout all of our branches.

In April our Uxbridge branch donated a Table Football to Hillingdon hospital in North West London. The hospital is the only acute hospital in the area with a busy Accident & Emergency, inpatients, day surgery and outpatient clinics. The Children’s Outpatients department caters for babies to children of 16 years.

Space Station sponsored Torron-Lee Dewar, a local Dance Choreographer was shortlisted for the Positive Role Model Award at The National Diversity Awards which took place in September.

October saw our first business open networking evening at our Uxbridge branch

And to close the year we have finally named our mascot…Elliot!

And the year isn’t quite over yet. We may still have some surprises in store for you!
