We love our staff, and they love us back!

Here at Space Station, we pride ourselves on our high staff retention. As a family owned business established 30 years ago, we are extremely happy to say that one of the members of the original team is still with us. Lynn Tweed, our Financial Controller still rules the chequebook with the same vigour! Over the years, a few staff members have come and gone, but mainly they come and stay. We have been told by numerous customers that we have a great friendly atmosphere in our offices and we are asked about job vacancies by existing customers on aregular basis.

In the last 12 months, we had nine members of staff celebrating between five and twenty-five service, with another 15-year celebration due in November. We have another four employees approaching the 5-year mark in 2013. This means that 60% of our staff have been here 5 years or longer! In fact, our 23 employees have 173 years of experience between them.

Space Station benefits hugely from the retained knowledge and experience of our employees. They ensure that our customers are looked after really well, from initial enquiry all the way through to vacating their storage unit. Their expertise also ensures that, in most instances, they can gauge over the phone the right unit size for your goods and give you an accurate quotation there and then.

Just as it makes good business sense to hold onto our existing customers ,the same is just as true for our employees. We rely on excellent customer service to differentiate ourselves in a competitive market; organisations with employee retention problems will find it increasingly difficult to meet customers rising expectations.

When we asked our staff why they like working at Space Station, the comments ranged from: “Lovely atmosphere in the office”, “Big investment in staff with opportunities for training and qualifications”, “Great team, great benefits”, “Fantastic Christmas hamper”, “Nice place to work, everyone gets on really well”, “ Space Station has always looked after its staff well”, “Good opportunities to progress within the company”, “Nice to work for a family-owned company that values its staff and rewards them with great benefits”.

Alastair Caldwell, founder and Managing Director of the company said: “It is great to come into any of the Space Station branches and be greeted by familiar, friendly faces. The office is always filled with laughter;our employees interact with customers in an easy, friendly manner. It is good to see that the ethos that I set out to create all those years ago is still very much present and has carried on into the 21st century.”
