Welcome to the Spring edition of The Edit. The Easter Bunny has been and gone, soon it will be bikini and barbeque season – we’ve got our fingers crossed anyway!
Variety for variety
From dying hair Green to crossing the famous Abbey Road crossing dressed as a Minion we’ve been involved in a whole host of fundraising activities for Variety the Children’s Charity over the recent months – there’s been Easter raffles, fun days and a darts challenge too! Our total currently stands at £10,545 which is over half way to our £20K goal! A huge thank you and well done to everyone that has contributed so far!
We have plenty more planned so keep an eye on our fundraising page and facebook page for future fundraising events. Our marketing Manager Vlatka is currently training hard for a half marathon in October – and she’s running it on her birthday! If you wish to sponsor Vlatka, no matter how big or small please view Vlatka’s fundraising page.
Look out for Space Station’s ‘Beat the Goalie’ stall at the Langley carnival on 9 July 2017, our very own Dave Carroll, former Wycombe Wanderers footballer will be there along with other staff members raising as much money as possible for Variety.
In addition to our Variety fundraising we’ve also continued to support our local communities; our Slough store took a delivery of chocolate Eggs to the Wexham Park Children’s Ward over the Easter weekend and the West London region donated 100 cardboard boxes to the YMCA West London Sleep Out that took part at the QPR Football grounds on 31st March. Our Kings Heath store also supported their local flower show in Birmingham with sponsorship.
As well as fundraising we also donate £5 to Variety for every review we receive on Trust Pilot and so far this year that’s added £255.00 to the Variety pot! A big thank you to everyone that has taken the time to leave their comments and contributed towards our ‘Excellent’ score! If you haven’t already left a review and would like to share your comments, head over to Trust Pilot.
Spring is often considered as the best time to sell your house – the evenings are lighter, the gardens are out in bloom and there are fewer holidays to work around.
So as we Spring into house moving season we wanted to share three simple tips for a straight-forward move!
Forward planning – stick to a plan of action to ensure your move runs smoothly! Start packing valuable early, book professional moving teams well in advance of your moving date and consider placing some of your belongings in storage for greater breathing space.
Relax and re-energise – break tasks into smaller chunks and take regular breaks – if you’re putting things into storage at one of our stores, take advantage of the tea and coffee available and stop for a break before you leave!
Think positive – We all build lives around the places we live – the friendships, routines and putting our own stamp on a place is what makes a house a home! Moving house brings change but by keeping hold of things that matter from your old home and embracing a new start brings fresh enjoyment!
Sometimes having a place to store your belongings while moving house can be a huge help and we offer a free removal service into storage so it couldn’t be easier!

A new welcome!
Our property manager Simon and his team have been busy giving the reception areas in our stores a face lift, Kings Heath, Uxbridge and Slough are now complete and looking great! If you’re popping in to one of these stores why not stick around for a coffee and try out the new seating area?
At Space Station, we’re really proud of our heritage as a family-owned company – it was founded by Alastair Caldwell in 1983. Alastair enjoyed a vibrant career in Formula One before setting up Space Station and has now returned to the motoring world, taking part in rallies all over the world!
So, if you ever spot a beautiful classic car in a strange corner of the world with a Space Station sticker across the top of the windscreen, make sure you say hi to the driver!
…and now our staff news…
A fond farewell!
At the end of February we said a very fond farewell to the lovely Lynn, our IT manager who retired after an incredible 33 years with Space Station! We’ve heard Lynn and husband Barry have been busy moving house, taking trips on their narrow boat and keeping up to date with all the latest films at the cinema! We’re so pleased retirement is going well but we do miss Lynn and all her helpful tips!
Every month Space Station awards stores and individuals with ‘stars’ for exceptional performance. The stars equal pounds which can be spent by the store team on whatever they wish. So far this year our Kings Heath store in Birmingham has accrued the most stars and they have a healthy £200 in their pot to spend! Well done Kings Heath!
We’ve also seen Martin our Brentford store manager celebrate 20 years with the company and Lee from our Kings Heath store in Birmingham celebrated 10 years. Congratulations to them both – what a lot of self-storage experience!
Did you know?
16GB of mobile phone data or 3,640 photos when laid out side by side would be the equivalent of 5 football pitches? That’s a lot of space!
